In Sweden, It's Illegal To Own Just One Guinea Pig

So, you won't believe the crazy law that makes it illegal to own less than two guinea pigs at once in Sweden.

Yes, you read that right! Well... maybe the cops won't handcuff you and haul you off, but everything is well intentioned inside the 182-page Animal Protection Ordinance that guides the country's animal laws.

It's the ultimate guidebook for animal BFFs, and it's been dropping knowledge on would-be pet owners since 2008.

First off, did you know that forcing your chicken to wear glasses or contacts is a big no-no? I mean, who even thinks of that?! (Art. 20 (c), in case you were wondering.)

The ordinance also spills the tea on which animals need a squad to thrive. Along with guinea pigs we're talking mice, gerbils, rats, degus, and chinchillas, plus a whole flock of birds like Japanese quails, macaws, cockatoos, parakeets, parrots, canaries, and lovebirds. (Because who doesn't love lovebirds?)

And if you're thinking of getting a rabbit, you better be ready to be their wingman for the first eight weeks. After that, they're cool with being solo, but they still need to be within ear and nose shot of their bunny buddies.

The veterinary office in Sweden is like the ultimate pet whisperer, dishing out advice on how to keep your guinea pigs and other furry friends happy. They even suggest that an all-female guinea pig squad might get a little catty, so maybe throw in a neutered dude to keep the peace.

So, if you're a bingo player in Sweden thinking of becoming a pet parent, you better check out this ordinance. It's the ultimate guide to keeping your furry and feathered friends living their best lives.
